This annual black-tie awards event recognizes the exceptional achievements of business executives and sales and marketing professionals in SE Michigan. It is the 19th annual gala to be hosted by the Marketing & Sales Executives of Detroit (MSED). Proceeds from MSED events benefit the MSED scholarship program, education seminars and charitable contributions.

MSED is pleased to recognize Jay Farner, president and CMO, Quicken Loans, with the 2012 MSED Executive Leadership Award. Jay also serves as Portfolio Manager for Quicken Loans’ family of companies. He is instrumental in leveraging the synergies between Quicken Loans’ marketing and mortgage origination operations. This strategic alliance played a key role in the company’s record $30 billion in retail home-loan volume in 2011.
Jay Farner, a graduate of MSU with a finance degree, joined Rock Financial in 1996 quickly becoming one of the company’s top mortgage bankers. In 1997, he became a Director of Mortgage Banking and played a significant role in training and development for Rock Financial, the company’s former Michigan-only brand. He was promoted to Vice President of Web Mortgage Banking in May 1998, helping to establish Quicken Loans as the largest online lender in the country.
Outside of Quicken Loans, Jay lends support to Bizdom, serving on the entrepreneurial boot camp’s appropriations board which determines funding for proposed startup businesses in Detroit. He is on several board of directors including Cellerant, a biotechnology company focused on developing human therapeutics for blood-related disorders and cancer; Sociocast, an intelligence platform providing companies real-time user behavior; ePrize, the leader in the interactive promotions industry; Protect America, a leading home security company, and is a member of the Karmanos Cancer Institute’s Marketing Committee. Jay is also the recipient of the 2011 Crain’s Detroit Business, 40 under 40 class.
While “operations” is the brain of a corporate body, marketing is the heart. Jay’s passion for what he does is pumping the blood needed to help make Quicken Loans, the city of Detroit and the state of Michigan the best they can be. MSED is honored to have Jay Farner as this year's recipient of our Executive Leadership Award.

The Trailblazer award is appropriately named for this year’s recipient, Saad Chehab, President and CEO Chrysler brand, Chrysler Group LLC. His leadership in the development and execution of the "Imported from Detroit" advertising campaign, which launched with the now famous two-minute commercial, titled 'Born of Fire,' during Super Bowl XLV, is to be commended. In a world where social media has put corporate decision making under intense scrutiny, it was a very bold move no company before Chrysler was willing to make. It made all of us in this region very proud of where we live and work.
In addition to the Executive Leadership and Trailblazer Awards, two (2) Platinum Awards will be presented to recognize one individual and one team who distinguished themselves in our field and helped their companies achieve critical business goals.
