Since its inception, Marketing & Sales Executives of Detroit has been committed to rewarding and supporting outstanding students majoring in marketing and sales at local colleges and universities. To date, our organization has awarded nearly $200,000 in scholarships to worthy young adults who were attending school full time -- most of whom were working at least part-time to help pay the cost of their education.
In addition, college students are invited to MSED’s monthly meetings and are encouraged to participate in the professional development workshops which are offered to the organization’s members. We believe attendance at these events provides them with opportunities to learn about the many career opportunities open to them in the field of marketing and sales. It also allows them to meet with executives one-on-one to gain a personal understanding about the profession.
We believe that this commitment to supporting and mentoring college students ensures that there will always be a new group of young graduates ready to take their place in the professional world of sales and marketing.
2012 Scholarship Recipients
Vanessa is a senior in Supply Management at Eastern Michigan University. She has a 4.0 average. This follows her Associates degree magna cum laude from Henry Ford Community College.
Her work experience includes sales positions at Macy's where she was a Ralph Lauren Associate, at Lane Bryant and at Victoria's Secret. She also worked for three years at The University of Michigan as a radiology associate.
This summer, she was awarded a scholarship for a six week study program in India. Following graduation, Vanessa plans to work for a large company in supply management.
Brittany is a senior at the University of Toledo where she is a member of the sales fraternity,Pi Sigma Epsilon. She won the national award from the group in the PSE Pro-Am Sell-A-Thon against 88 competitors and also came in first in the University of Toledo Sales Competition.
For the last 2.5 years, she has been the general manager of a 400 member health club, Fitness 19. Her responsibilities included selling memberships. She also was an outside sales person for Country Grain Bakery.
Her outside activities include volunteering for the Salvation Army and the Boys and Girls Clubs. Her aim is to get an outside sales job fir a medical company and move into management.
